Factors Related to Positive Discipline Enhancement among Preschool Children’s Caregivers

Abstract

Introduction: Positive Discipline enhancement among caregivers of preschool children is a form of development executive function to grow up into a problem-solving adult. Research objectives: This descriptive correlational research study aimed to investigate factors related to Positive Discipline enhancement among caregivers of preschool children. The study explored the relationships between perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and family’s social supports for positive discipline enhancement with positive discipline enhancement. ResearchMethodology: Participants of this study were caregivers of preschool children attending 3 child development centers in Chiang Mai province. The 85 participants were selected using stratified random sampling during January - February 2020. The research instruments used in this study were a data recording form 5 measurement. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and Spearman’s rank correlation. Results: The results showed that the average score of Positive Discipline enhancement ( = 58.76, SD. = 6.28) and perceived barriers of Positive Discipline enhancement ( = 1 4 . 2 9 , S D = 6 . 3 6 ) w e r e moderate, while the perceived benefits ( = 23.26, SD. = 3.12) and family’s social supports ( = 2 7 . 4 5 , SD. = 6.80) were high. Perceived benefits of and family’s social supports for Positive Discipline enhancement in caregivers of preschool children were positively correlated with Positive Discipline enhancement in caregivers of preschool children (r = .36, p< .05 and r = .26, p< .05), while perceived barriers of Positive Discipline enhancement was negatively correlated with positive discipline enhancement (r = -.23, p< .05). Conclusions: Perceived benefits of and family’s social supports for Positive Discipline enhancement in caregivers of preschool children were positively correlated while perceived barriers of Positive Discipline enhancement was negatively correlated with positive discipline enhancement and correlated factors of Positive Discipline enhancement in caregivers of preschool children.Implications: The results of this study can be used as database information for pediatric nurse and reduce unwanted behavior problems form parenting
