Factors Influencing Parental Acceptance of Transgender Children and the Effects of Integrated Family Counseling to Promote Acceptance

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) examine the factors influencing parental acceptance of transgender children, and (2) explore the effects of integrated family counseling in promoting such acceptance.

This study was conducted in two phases:

1. The first phase assessed the factors influencing parental acceptance of transgender children. The data collection with sampling amount 400 people Data were collected from a sample of 400 parents whose transgender children were studying in Mathayom 1–3 (Grades 7–9) under the Ministry of Education in Nonthaburi Province during the 2017 academic year. 2560
   Methodology for this study was The questionnaire on factors influencing parental acceptance consisted of the following key variables:

• อิทธิพลทางสังคม (social influence)
• ความคาดหวังของผู้ปกครอง (expectations of parents)
• ลักษณะของผู้ปกครอง (parental characteristics)
• ความสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัว (family relationships)

2. An integrated family counseling program was implemented to enhance parental acceptance of transgender children, using theoretical frameworks to guide the program design. A total of 20 families 3.50 were selected and divided into two groups: 10 families in the experimental group and 10 families in the control group. 20 ครอบครัว with assessment scores below 3.50 ถูกแบ่งออกเป็น 2 กลุ่ม ได้แก่  กลุ่มทดลองจำนวน 10 ครอบครัว  กลุ่มควบคุมจำนวน 10 ครอบครัว

The experimental group received integrated family counseling sessions lasting 90 minutes each, for a total of 12 sessions. After the intervention, the same assessment was administered again to evaluate the outcomes. The data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA Repeated Measurement

• The experimental group demonstrated significantly higher levels of parental acceptance of their transgender children compared to the control group, with statistical significance at the level of .05 in the period of monitoring time
